Fresno State alumnus hopes to destroy medical debt for Central Valley

FRESNO, Calif. ( KGPE/KSEE ) – Fresno State and Merced High alumnus Dave Barrera, announced Monday the launch of a fundraiser through a campaign called, RIP Medical Debt – with the goal to abolish $1.6 million worth of medical debt in the Central Valley.

According to RIP Medical Debt , this campaign was founded in 2014 by two former debt collection executives. Over the course of decades in the debt-buying industry, they met with thousands of Americans saddled with unpaid and un-payable medical debt and realized they were uniquely qualified to help those in need.

RIP Medical Debt says they imagined a new way to relieve medical debt by using donations to buy large bundles of debt that are erased with no tax consequences to donors or recipients.

As for the Central Valley, Barerra says, one for 100 Medical Debt Destroyer is striving to improve the lives of the hard-working members of Merced, Madera, and Fresno Counties.

Barerra’s goal is to wipe out crippling medical debt for families to live their lives to the fullest.
