FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Following the unexpected arrival of 16 Venezuelans from the southern border to Fresno, on Monday the city released a statement providing updates regarding the migrants’ situation -and how is the city helping them.

In a statement, the City of Fresno officials say they provided food and shelter for the group of Venezuelans who arrived, assisted by several Fresno organizations, as well as faith-based groups.
The City of Fresno has facilitated a coordinated response with resources from Fresno County, the Fresno Rescue Mission, the Poverello House, UCSF, and others to meet the food and shelter needs of the Venezuelans who arrived in Fresno nine days ago.
Currently, community benefit organizations and faith-based groups are assisting the families with additional resources.

During a press conference on Friday, Fresno mayor Jerry Dyer said the group of immigrants were placed on a bus in El Paso, Texas, and were given options on where they would like to go, for which they chose Denver, Colorado. Upon arrival in Denver, they were transported to Fresno. Dyer revealed that many of them thought they were going to Indio in Riverside County.
