Friends of Fresno homeless man killed in DUI crash gather for vigil

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – On Thursday, friends of the homeless man hit and killed in a suspected DUI accident in Fresno’s Tower District are mourning his life.

The Fresno Police Department says 25-year-old Cameron Aguilar was allegedly speeding and driving under the influence when her car went off the road near Fern and Maroa Avenues, early Wednesday morning.

Police say she hit and killed one man, identified by his friends as Edward Austin. Another victim, a woman whom friends identify as Jasmin, is currently at CRMC in critical condition.

“He was looking to get his life together and it just didn’t happen,” a friend of Austin, Kardica Parker said.

Parker says she was hoping Austin, who many knew as Diablo, would be able to get off the streets. But now, she says she’s devastated knowing he will never get the chance.

“It was just heartbreaking it really was, and they didn’t stand a chance. She couldn’t control the car and they didn’t stand a chance; they didn’t see it coming,” Parker said.
