LGBTQ+ community encouraged to vote during Tower District event

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – As the primary elections approach in Fresno County, an event was held in Tower District at the Splash Bar to invite the LGBQT+ community, encouraging them to participate and discuss the issues that affect them -the same it could affect everyone else.

Mike Karbassi, Councilmember of District 2, says the event aimed to hear about issues that affect the community -including issues about public safety, how clean parks and roads are, quality education, response when requesting emergency services, and other issues.

“I think having access to the people running for office and the ones who represent them is really important because everyone in our democracy deserves to have access and a voice,” he said.

He says it is important for everyone to know that regardless of their special population, all elected officials are willing to interact with them and learn from them.

“When you are a representative, you have to be able to listen and get feedback from the people you represent to be more effective,” said Karbassi.
