17,000 chickens dead after fire in Orange Cove

ORANGE COVE, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – 17,000 chickens that were living in a chicken coop in Orange Cove, were reported dead due to a fire on Friday, according to the Orange Cove Fire Department.

The fire was reported to the Orange Cove Fire Department around 2:30 p.m. at 9760 S Hill Avenue.

With reports of smoke seen from miles away, the fire was then confirmed by Fire officials.

Officials say the Orange Cove Fire District was assisted by the Reedley Fire Department, Cal Fire Fresno, and Tulare County Fire.

17,000 chickens were lost in the incident, according to the Orange Cove Fire District.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
