DUI crash damages traffic signal controller, Madera officials say

MADERA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – One of the eight suspects arrested for driving under the influence led to the destruction of a traffic signal controller.

According to police, officers were handling many calls for service and conducted several proactive arrests over the weekend of Feb. 3 and Feb. 4., eight of them being DUI-related.

8 arrested for DUI in Madera, police say

The City of Madera officials say one of those DUI-related incidents occurred at the intersection of Howard and Pine streets, unfortunately, led to the destruction of the traffic signal controller at the intersection.

As a result, officials say the signal lights will be in continuous red flash mode for the next one to two months as crews await parts to rebuild the traffic signal controller.

As the Super Bowl approaches, city officials want to emphasize the importance of celebrating responsibly. They encourage residents to prioritize safety by designating a sober driver for those who plan on consuming alcohol or other intoxicants.
