Historic Dinuba theater burned, fire crews report

DINUBA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An investigation is underway after a historic building in the City of Dinuba was burned early Sunday morning, according to the Dinuba Fire Department.

Firefighters say they responded to the Strand Theater in the 200 block of L Street around 1:20 a.m. after a fire was reported by a passerby.

Upon arrival, responding crews reported smoke and flames coming from the top of the building.

Officials say the vacant boarded-up brick building, first built in 1924, had no power or gas and had previously left the city wondering what to do with it.

Crews say one person sustained minor injuries but it is undetermined whether or not their injuries are related to the fire.

Firefighters also say some embers from the fire landed on the Dinuba Chamber of Commerce Building across the street from the theater but they were able to catch it quickly with only minor damage to a couple of shingles on the roof.

Fire investigators say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
