Fresno City College copper wire theft suspect identified by police

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An alleged copper wire thief at Fresno City College West Fresno Campus was arrested on Friday by the State Center Community College District (SCCCD) Police Department.

The Fresno City College West Fresno Campus says they suffered a significant amount of copper wire theft, which caused thousands of dollars in damage and impacted the parking lot lighting as well as lighting alongside walking trails and bike baths.

Within this investigation, the State Center Community College District Police Department says they developed a plan to catch and arrest who was causing this problem.

A team from the SCCCD Police Department went undercover on the campus on Friday night, aided by the use of a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) device, as police say this senses infrared radiation and heat sources, allowing them to observe movement on campus in the dark.

In this operation, police say the FLIR device helped officers identify a suspect who was observed committing copper wire theft on the north end of campus.
