FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A driver has been taken to the hospital with major injuries after a crash involving a school bus full of students on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported around 2:30 p.m. when officers say they received a report of the crash in the area of McKinley Avenue and Hayes Avenue.
According to CHP, a school bus from the Central Unified School District with 26 students on board was traveling eastbound on McKinley Avenue at about 50 mph. At the same time, a white SUV was traveling northbound on Hayes Avenue. Witnesses say the SUV slowed down at the stop sign but it still ran the sign at approximately 10 mph, colliding with the bus.
CHP says a third vehicle was also traveling westbound on McKinley and also collided with the other vehicles.
Officers say the driver of the white SUV sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.
