2 cats, 5 kittens abandoned at Clovis shelter door, officials say

CLOVIS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Officials with Clovis Animal Services say two adult cats and several kittens were abandoned at the door of Miss Winkles in the City of Clovis.

According to city officials, the Miss Winkles staff arrived on Wednesday morning to find a crate that held two adult cats and five neonatal kittens. It was later determined that they had been there all night.

Officials say this is a crime, according to the California Penal Code 597s which states “every person who willfully abandons any animal is guilty of a misdemeanor.” The City of Clovis Municipal Code § 6.1.507-508 also prohibits someone from abandoning them to avoid the responsibility of its custody and care.

Officials with the shelter urge the community to be a part of a bigger solution and to partner with them to keep animals safe instead of abandoning them. They say members of the community can reach out to Clovis Animal Services for information, resources, or ideas to help two-legged and four-legged residents stay healthy, housed, and safe.
