Mail carriers to pick food donations this Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Saturday, May 11 is Stamp Out Hunger Day.

It’s a nationwide food drive conducted by the U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

People are encouraged to leave non-perishable food donations in a bag near their mailbox on May 11, before their mail carrier arrives.

That food will then be donated to local food banks, community churches and food pantries.

The U.S. Postal Service says the most wanted food items include canned meats, canned and boxed meals, dried beans, pasta, rice cereal, canned fruits, and 100% fruit juice.

Perishable items, items in glass containers, alcohol, homemade or expired items will not be accepted. More information can be found here .
