Clovis Police cracking down on drunk drivers this 4th of July

CLOVIS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Clovis Police say driving while drunk will not be tolerated on the city’s roads this 4th of July.

Police officials say in 2022, 487 people were killed in crashes throughout the country during the 4th of July holiday period, 40% of those crashes involved alcohol.

Here’s where to celebrate 4th of July in the Central Valley

“Choosing a sober driver is not just about following the law; it’s about saving lives,”
Traffic Supervisor Corporal Mark Bradford said.

“If you plan on celebrating the Fourth of July with a drink, make a plan to go safely with a sober ride home. Think of your loved ones, friends, and family before getting behind the wheel.”

Police driving under the influence also includes impairment from;

  • Prescription drugs
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Marijuana.

Officials say if you see someone who appears impaired or driving recklessly, call 9-1-1.
