Caruthers continue to celebrate the Fourth of July despite heat

CARUTHERS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Even in the extreme heat, communities like Caruthers continue to celebrate Independence Day by watching fireworks while staying hydrated.

The Caruthers Fairgrounds offers food, drinks, and shaved ice to enjoy with a free firework show every July 3.

However, Mark Sorensen, the President of Caruthers Fair says he has been involved for 37 years, but this year is the hottest he has ever seen.

“It’s probably the hottest they’ve ever done. It’s been close, but oftentimes it’s in the low 90s and it’s quite nice, so you just never know what you’re going to get,” Sorensen said.

Sorensen recommends that although there will be plenty of water and drinks offered people should bring an ice chest to stay hydrated.

Volunteers like Valerie Torres say that even with the high temperatures, giving the community something exciting to do for the Fourth of July is worth it.

“It’s super hot but I do it for the kids, so it could be 115, whatever, but we’ll still do it for them,” Torres said.
