Man wanted in Fresno deadly shooting arrested, records show

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A man who was wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Fresno, described by police as a member of the unhoused community, has been arrested, according to arrest logs published by the Fresno Police Department.

Officials say 42-year-old Robert Phompong was wanted in connection with a shooting on April 8, on the 1500 Block of N. Ninth St. in Fresno.

Officers say on April 8, a ShotSpotter activation alerted them to the shooting that took place around 4:20 p.m. and they arrived to find 42-year-old Yong Vang suffering from a gunshot wound. Vang was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Police said that the suspect, Robert Phompong, was known to be a validated gang member with a criminal history.

According to police arrest logs, Phompong was arrested on Wednesday for suspicion of homicide and violating his probation. He was found by law enforcement at an address near Olive Avenue and 8th Street.
