Fresno Chaffee Zoo to host baby shower for baby elephants

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo announced Wednesday they will be hosting a baby shower in anticipation of the arrival of two African Elephant calves, along with other events.

Zoo officials say the events, hosted during Elephant Week in celebration of World Elephant Day, will kick off with an Elephant Open Barn Tour and a Matching Gift Program on Monday, August 12.

Every dollar donated towards the Matching Gift Program will equal two dollars, which will help with baby-proofing the exhibit and assist with feeding and caring for the Zoo’s baby elephants and their mothers.

The barn tour will give the community an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the zoo’s beloved elephants and the dedicated care they receive. Tickets for the tour are $10, but admission to the zoo must be purchased separately.

Zoo officials say the experience aims to educate the public on the importance of elephant conservation and the efforts made by the zoo to protect these creatures. According to staff, the elephants will not be in the barn during the tour, and tickets are limited.
