FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Following the death of two racehorses within the span of three days at the Big Fresno Fair, representatives have confirmed the second racehorse’s cause of death
Representatives now confirm that 6-year-old Tulane Tryst died of pneumonia Friday.
Second racehorse dies at the Big Fresno Fair
Larry Swartzlander with the California Authority of Racing Fairs says these deaths are rare at the Big Fresno Fair, having not seen one in about four years.
He says Tulane Tryst was in veterinarian care when she died.
5-year-old mare Cry Me a Runner also died after stumbling on the racetrack Sunday, according to Swartzlander.
He says, due to the severity of her injuries, medics chose to euthanize her.
She was taken to UC Davis after she died, and Swartzlander says experts confirmed she was healthy before the race and the track was safe.
The Big Fresno Fair begins Wednesday, and horse races will continue.
