Selma PD introduces K9 Satin, expert in narcotics, firearms

SELMA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Selma Police Department announced Wednesday they have a new K9.

Police say, Satin, a one-year-old black Labrador retriever, was purchased with generous donations from the Selma Police Foundation.

The foundation also covered half the cost of her specialized training, helping her become certified as a dual-purpose K9. Officer High, a former United States Marine, was selected as Satin’s handler after joining the department in December 2022.

Police say Satin is trained to detect narcotics and firearms but will not be used for criminal apprehensions.

Her primary role will be in secure, pre-assessed areas, ensuring a safer and more efficient work environment for officers.
