FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Tavion Tapscott of Fresno was in court Wednesday, charged with the murder of 21-year-old Breaja Jones , officials said.
Tavion waived his arraignment timeline and will return to court to make his plea on Oct. 30.
His bail was set for $1.6 million.
The Fresno County District Attorney says Jones and Tapscott used to date and they had a child together.
Clovis Police say Jones was shot dead in her home on Oct. 19, with their child nearby.
Tapscott is now charged with murder, discharge of a weapon and child abuse.
The District Attorney says he was already out on bail for another domestic violence charge against Jones when he went to her house to pick up his things.
Officials say they got in a fight and Tapscott shot Jones, killing her.
“That is not that is not unheard of. A lot of the times with abusive situations, there’s been multiple instances of domestic violence,” Marjaree Mason Center Program Director Leticia Campos said.
Campos says seeing potential domestic violence cases like this one never gets easier.
