FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A parolee who led deputies on a pursuit in northwest Fresno for five miles Friday night before crashing his vehicle, has been named by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Just after 8:30 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop a car’s driver near Shields and Hughes Avenues, but the driver instead sped away. Deputies say the man, 49-year-old Jimmy Cervelli of Fresno, made several turns at moderate rates of speed through neighborhoods in the area of Fruit and Gettysburg Avenues in his effort to get away.
They also say at one point, he let two passengers out of the car before continuing to Shaw Avenue, choosing to proceed to Palm Avenue at higher rates of speed.
About 15 minutes into the pursuit the sheriff’s office says he ran a red light and collided into a Lexus SUV that was crossing his path in an eastbound direction. That crash caused Cervelli to lose control of his vehicle and sent it into a fire hydrant. From there investigators say the vehicle clipped a power pole and then took out a tree before coming to rest on Palm Avenue.
