The sergeant had been seated in his parked patrol vehicle Saturday after responding to a ShotSpotter alert near Platt Avenue and 8th Street when police say 40-year-old Andy Morales pulled up in a vehicle alongside the sergeant and opened fire with an AR pistol firing .223 rounds.
According to police, after the sergeant was struck multiple times by gunfire, he pursued Morales and engaged in a short chase before Morales fled from the vehicle.
