FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Halloween Safe Night Out, an event that was hosted by Fresno EOC Local Conservation Corps and West Fresno Resource Center drew a crowd of more than 3,000 people on Halloween day.
“Last year, we had about 3,500 people that were here at the event and expecting this year near the same it actually increases every year,” said Shawn Riggins, Fresno EOC Director. “We’re amazed how much it increases.”
Riggins said the goal was to create a safe event for children and families in the neighborhood.
“There is a haunted house at the Haunted Walk,” he said. “We’re setting out for the selfie station here across the street.”
Halloween Safe Night Out was started after a young girl by the name of Kayla Foster was murdered nearby.
Riggins said they wanted to find a way to bring the community together in a safe way for families.
“Unfortunately, there was a murder of a young lady right behind our building in those apartments,” he said. “So for about a month, we had community listening sessions here, trying to find out how we could make southwest Fresno a safer community.”
