Train half-a-mile long blocks traffic in Madera

MADERA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Traffic was blocked throughout Madera on Tuesday afternoon after a nearly 3,000-foot train experiencing engine issues stopped on the tracks.

According to the Madera Police Department, the stalled train blocked multiple railroad crossings parallel to N Gateway Drive – between Yosemite Avenue and Central Avenue in Madera.

Officers say the over half-mile of blocked crossing forced drivers and pedestrians in the area to be detoured to Cleveland Avenue, 9th Street, and Olive Avenue crossings.

It is unknown what caused the train’s engine problems.

As of 1:45 p.m., Madera Police reported that all crossings were open.
