MADERA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The California Highway Patrol in the Madera area will be implementing a 12-month enforcement and education campaign, aiming to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities in its jurisdiction.
The Fatal Reduction Through Education and Enforcement (FREE) campaign began on Oct. 1 and will end on Sept. 30, 2025. The campaign will focus on traffic crashes and primary crash factors attributed to impaired driving, improper turning, unsafe speed, and wrong-side-of-the-road driving.
According to CHP, 106 people were killed and 2677 were injured in reportable crashes within the CHP Madera area jurisdiction between 2020 and 2023. Of those people, 53 were killed and 423 were injured as a result of driving under the influence.
Madera area CHP says they will focus on additional enforcement on Highway 41, Highway 99, Highway 145 and Highway 152, as well as rural, unincorporated roadways. Officers add they will continue their collaboration with local transportation planning agencies, community organizations, legislative members, public safety agencies, and the commercial trucking industry to reduce the number of people killed and injured in traffic crashes within their jurisdiction.
