Woman in wheelchair hit, killed by Fresno driver

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Fresno police are actively searching for a driver who they say hit a woman in a wheelchair as she attempted to cross the street Saturday evening.

Police say around 5:30 p.m. they responded to a reported hit-and-run collision on Clovis Avenue near Inyo Street in southeast Fresno.

Investigators report a woman in a wheelchair was attempting to cross Clovis Avenue when a vehicle traveling northbound on the road hit her and continued on.

Officers say the woman was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries where she was eventually pronounced deceased.

Detectives are actively working to gather information regarding the suspect vehicle involved. The intersection will be shut down as the investigation develops.
