Vacant home fire in Fresno prompts investigation

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – An investigation is underway following a vacant home fire in Fresno on Friday evening, the Fresno Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. reporting flames coming from a structure in the area of Cedar and Tyler avenues in Fresno.

Upon arrival, fire crews say they saw flames coming out of a vacant boarded-up structure, as well as some vegetation caught on fire. The flames were within a few feet and threatening a nearby home.

Despite the fire providing an initial challenge for firefighters due to its intensity, crews say they were able to put out the flames. Nobody was inside the structure, and neighboring buildings were not affected.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
