Coroner IDs woman killed in hit-and-run crash on Hwy 99

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Officials with the Kern County Coroner’s Office identified a Madera woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 99 on Sunday.

The woman was identified as Irma Pacheco Matias, 50, of Madera.

Officials say Matias was struck by a vehicle on northbound Highway 99 just south of Houghton Road just after 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Matias died at the scene due to her injuries, according to the coroner’s office.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol say officers were dispatched to the area for a crash involving two pedestrians. Prior to officer’s arrival the alleged vehicle involved fled.

The vehicle is described as a gray colored Ford compact vehicle.

Investigation showed two pedestrians, a 50-year-old woman who was identified as Matias, and a 46-year-old man were walking across lanes on Highway 99 in front of the path of the Ford.

The driver then struck Matias and the 46-year-old man, according to CHP.
