FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The man who was shot and killed after a fight with his parole officer in Fresno on Christmas Eve was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Friday.

The man was identified as 26-year-old Jeremy Raul Sanchez of Fresno.

According to police, Sanchez’s parole officer stopped by his home on Tuesday afternoon. During the visit, officers say a physical altercation took place.

Around 12:30 p.m. police say they were alerted to a three-round shot spotter on the 300 block on West Cortland Avenue – the same block as Sanchez’s home.

Officers found Sanchez and he was provided medical aid – but was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident is being investigated by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Fresno Police Department.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on Thursday that the incident is being investigated under AB 1506 , which requires all incidents of a deadly officer-involved shooting where the victim was an unarmed civilian to be investigated by the California Department of Justice.
