Total lunar eclipse visible from Central Valley Thursday night

FRESNO, Calif. ( KGPE ) – You’ll want to look up in the sky Thursday night and into early Friday morning; as long as the clouds cooperate, we will be able to see a total lunar eclipse across North and South America.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth, and moon line up. The moon is in the inner part of Earth’s shadow, or the umbra. The outer part of the shadow is called the penumbra, which is where a partial lunar eclipse occurs.

While in the umbra, a red-orange tint is cast on the moon, which many refer to as a blood moon…
