FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer is now suing a Selma-based farming company over a deadly crash that killed seven farmworkers in February of 2024.
The lawsuit – filed last week in federal court– claims Lion Farms violated the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection act when it failed to provide safe transportation for its migrant and seasonal workers, failed to pay wages when due, and did not provide the required information to its migrant agricultural workers.
It says a supervisor at Lion Farms had arranged transportation for eight workers from their homes in Kerman to a farm owned by Lion Farms in Madera County the morning of February 23, 2024…
