April Fools Day was once about mischief, Fresno historian says

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – In the era of “fake news,” the Fresno City and County Historical Society says looking at the history of April Fools Day can bring back some of its “much-needed” innocent mischief.

The historical society’s president, Elizabeth Laval, says the origins of April Fool’s Day can be traced back as far as the time of the Roman Empire.

“Some people think it started on a day called Hilaria, which would make you think kind of hilarious,” Laval said. “But that was celebrated on March 25th.”…
