‘Paid freedom’s ultimate price’: Madera County honors those lost in line of duty

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – On Tuesday, Madera County Officials held their 18th annual Law Enforcement Memorial. County law enforcement agencies and family members celebrated the life and memory of each fallen officer.

“The weight of this day never gets lighter. Here in front of these etched names, we honor eight of our own and the thousands of guardians across the nation who paid freedom’s ultimate price,” said Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue.

Sheriff Pogue shed light on a nationwide tragedy. In 2024, 147 peace officers were killed in the line of duty, which is a sharp 25% increase from the previous year…
