Valadao introducing a new law to curb romance scams

WASHINGTON (KSEE/KGPE) — Americans are being romanced and robbed online, and Central Valley Congressmember David Valadao is introducing legislation to help stop it.

Romance scams can start innocently enough: Jackie Crenshaw thought Brandon Miller was the love of her life. He was a father, a widower, with beautiful eyes. She thought this person cared about her, but it ended with heartbreak, years of debt and a $57,000 bill from the IRS.

Before long, the scammer stole her information, cloned her phone, and robbed her of over a million dollars. The man she thought she knew convinced her by writing her a $100,000 check for their future…
