Homes evacuated after contractor strikes gas main in Fresno neighborhood, crews say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Some homes were evacuated in a Fresno neighborhood Thursday after a contractor struck a gas main, causing a natural gas leak, the Fresno Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to the 3300 block of N. Marty Avenue around 11 a.m. after they say a contractor struck a 2-inch gas main, causing a natural gas leak.

The department’s HAZMAT team and additional crews were requested. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, and PG&E crews also responded to the scene.

Nobody reported injuries, but the Fresno Fire Department advises residents to always call 811 before they dig. “It’s the law, and it keeps everyone safe.”…
