K-9 Canelo helps capture man, woman hiding in Madera County orchard

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A K-9 with the Madera County Sheriff’s Office helped take down a man accused of assault with a deadly weapon, after he and a woman were caught with a stolen truck.

On Monday morning, a truck driver reported his Freightliner truck had been stolen. Two days later, deputies say he spotted it in a field in the area of Avenue 9 and Road 30.

After walking up to his truck, the driver confronted 37-year-old Eliza Martinez and 32-year-old Sean Deanda.

According to deputies, that’s when Deanda picked up a shovel and tried to strike – before both he and Martinez ran away. Martinez was caught soon after, but Deanda fled deeper into an orchard.

Deanada was found hiding inside a building in the orchard on Avenue 10 ½. According to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Canelo was deployed and bit the suspect to control him before he could be arrested…
