We’re excited to share something special with you today. Something that’s not only close to our hearts but also essential to the work we do: our Feral Cat Sanctuary. Built with love, care, and the generosity of Art O’Brien and our incredible donors, this sanctuary is unlike any other. While it’s not open to the public, it provides a peaceful, safe haven for the feral cats in our care. Here, these cats have the freedom to roam, rest, and live their lives in comfort, away from the dangers of the outside world.
Many of you may be familiar with our work to rescue and rehabilitate cats, but we’d like to dive deeper into an aspect of our sanctuary that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves: the true cost of care.
Each year, it costs about $1,970 to provide for just one feral cat. This covers everything from their food and vaccines to medications and the dedicated hours our staff spends ensuring their health, safety, and comfort. With over 70 cats currently in the sanctuary, our total annual expenses exceed $137,900. That’s not even including the additional costs of maintaining the property, like repairs, water systems, landscaping, and other essential upkeep.
So why is this sanctuary so important? For many of these cats, it’s not just a safe place, it’s their forever home. They can’t adapt to living in a traditional home, and they wouldn’t survive outdoors. Our sanctuary offers them a lifetime of care, protection, and love, something they may never have had otherwise. For these cats, it’s truly a lifeline.

As part of our “Did You Know?” campaign, we’re shining a light on the unseen costs and challenges that go into the care of these cats. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the sanctuary’s needs and highlight the vital role that donors like you play in making this work possible.
