REEDLEY – While many were preparing for the annual Reedley Fiesta, others took to the streets to take a stand.
On Oct. 18, residents of Reedley and its surrounding communities gathered on the corner of Manning and Buttonwillow avenues to take part in the nationwide “No Kings” protest. Organized by members of the Reedley Peace Center, protesters waved signs denouncing the violent treatment of immigrants and other forms of government overreach.
Hope Nisly, organizer for the Reedley Peace Center, shared that the turnout doubled what was expected, with more than 50 people showing up for the hour-long demonstration. Initially intended to take up just one street corner, the protest split onto the opposite side of Manning as more people began to show up.
