Fresno EOC Head Start fully open while centers close across the country

While dozens of Head Start programs across the country are missing out on federal funding because of the government shutdown, those in Fresno County will be operating as normal.

“We’re funded through December 31st. Right now our grant runs January through December 31st,” said Michael Balderas, director of Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission Head Start. “We shouldn’t see any effects as long as there’s some resolution to the shutdown quickly. I’m optimistic it’s not going to carry out for two months.”

The Fresno EOC runs 30 Head Start centers in the county, benefitting over 2000 kids from 0 to 5 years old…
