Southeast Fresno community protests city plan to annex farmland for 45,000 new homes

A massive new housing proposal in southeast Fresno is drawing strong criticism from residents who say the city’s plan to add 45,000 new homes could have lasting impacts on farmland, infrastructure, and the environment.

Dozens of property owners and community members gathered outside Fresno City Hall on Thursday morning, urging city leaders to vote against the Southeast Development Area, or SEDA, ahead of the council meeting.

“When are they ready to come to the table to talk to us face to face as property owners?” said Brett Thompson, who represents Southeast Property Owners. “We’ve gone out of our way to try to talk to them and we’ve gotten very non-transparent answers.”…
