‘His family and his property’: Madera jeweler defends shop, family from armed robbers

MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Five masked men grabbed thousands of dollars in jewelry, while the owner grabbed a gun and opened fire.

It was not a common sight for the police in Madera. “It’s one of those things that, low expectations on that happening. But when it does, it sure shocks the conscience,” said Madera Police Sgt. Blake Short.

Thursday evening, robbers rushed into Olivia’s Fine Jewelry. But Madera Police believe the men in black were outside for quite some time, waiting for the right opportunity to strike. “Most jewelry stores have a locking device on the door at the time that people come in. So it was very systematic by them and planned,” Sgt. Short explained. As customers exited, the crooks slipped in, heading straight for jewelry…
