Fresno’s 45,000 home plan on hold following late-night city council meeting

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The City of Fresno’s plan to build 45,000 new homes was placed on hold on Thursday at the Fresno City Council, in a meeting that stretched to almost midnight.

The development plan at the center of the debate is known as the Southeast Development Area (SEDA). The proposal sets out the annexation of 9,000 acres of land along the southeast part of Fresno, with around 450 acres set aside for housing.

The city says SEDA would add much-needed housing, and hopes that the project creates as many as 45,000 housing units and potentially thousands of jobs. Those against the plan say it would only hurt the city and people living in rural areas due to the development, as the area contains a mix of farmland and ranch-style homes…
