Selma council puts AI use policy in place

SELMA – With the recent purchase of two different artificial intelligence programs, the city of Selma has adopted an AI use policy to ensure city staff use the newer technology in an ethical way.

After a brief discussion on Dec. 16, the Selma City Council unanimously approved the city’s AI policy brought forward by City Manager Jason Rogers. Rogers, who started at the city in mid-November, said he noticed that despite the implementation of both Placer.ai and Madison AI, Selma did not have a usage policy in place.

“I think this is very timely,” Mayor Scott Robertson said. “AI is just exploding. … I can see it just growing from here, and I think it’s important to have this policy.”…
