Large black bear causes calamity in Coarsegold

COARSEGOLD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A bumbling bandit is on the loose in Coarsegold – neighbors have caught what they call “The Bear” on camera.

“The Bear” has become infamous in the mountain community over the last few months, with dozens of homeowners posting photos of his wreckage in a community Facebook group.

“It started off like a normal-sized looking bear. And like the last picture my neighbor posted – because I share that with you – I mean, the bear was – you could tell it’s had some good hearty meals,” Coarsegold homeowner Corrie Litchenberg said.

Corrie Litchenberg’s husband, David Litchenberg, says he walked out to their chicken coop in November to find the doors torn off and six out of seven chickens gone.

“I didn’t want to tell the kids. I mean, we already knew that it was the bear because he’d already got, like, a bunch of the neighbors’ chickens,” David Litchenberg said.

The next day, he went out, and the final chicken was gone, to the devastation of their 8-year-old son Santino…
