Fresno Police Chief Announces Officers will Always Wear Tactical Vests with Patches During Enforcement Actions

January 26, 2026 – Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto released the following statement:

“The Fresno Police Department is out working seven days a week to conduct criminal investigations, apprehend wanted suspects, and protect our community. That includes plainclothes officers conducting operations throughout the City of Fresno, oftentimes in partnership with personnel from other law-enforcement agencies.

Fresno Police officers also operate a variety of unmarked vehicles. When taking enforcement action, they will always be wearing a tactical vest, bearing a Fresno Police Department patch and an identifier on the back as either police or their designated special unit, such as “MAGEC” or “CCAT”…
