January 29, 2026 – Jorge Luis Rivera, 56, of Fresno, was sentenced on Monday to three years in prison and ordered to pay $3,499,999
in restitution for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud offenses, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced.
According to court documents, beginning in 2011 and continuing through August 2018, Rivera, the then-owner of El Ranchito Bakery in Fresno, exchanged Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for cash and also accepted SNAP benefits for unauthorized items at the request of customers. Rivera, in exchanging SNAP benefits for cash, did so at significant discount and thereby pocketed millions in ill-gotten profits. Rivera’s sentence was also enhanced as he directed the participation of two lower-level employees of the bakery who engaged in the fraud.
