FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A mother from Clovis was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison after she was convicted of giving her son a firearm, according to the federal Department of Justice. Prosecutors say the defendant’s son was a documented gang member and a convicted felon.
Federal prosecutors say 45-year-old Jawana Washington was sentenced on Monday to 18 months for aiding and abetting a felon in possession of a firearm as well as disposing of a firearm to a felon. The court heard that Jawana Washington gave her son, Taylor Washington, her own gun and asked him not to do anything crazy with it.

As Taylor Washington was leaving his mother’s apartment complex, law enforcement stopped him and recovered a gun registered to his mother. Investigators also found messages between Jawana Washington and other people acknowledging that he had her gun – and encouraged the deletion of the incriminating messages.
