Fresno real estate agent pleads guilty to $9M Ponzi scheme, officials say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno man pleaded guilty to running a $9 million real estate Ponzi scheme, the Department of Justice announced Monday.

The DOJ said that 43-year-old Matthew Campbell pleaded guilty. On Monday, the Department of Real Estate (DRE) confirmed that Campbell is a licensed real estate agent and has been since 2011.

According to the DOJ’s court documents, since 2012, Campbell operated two real estate investment companies, Preferred Property LLC and Ampez Rehab Investments LLC. The DOJ said he used the companies to buy and sell real estate, build, renovate properties and solicit investor money to fund operations…
