FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A local physician is urging patients to stay alert after discovering that someone used artificial intelligence to impersonate him online. The fake account targeted patients by promoting telehealth appointments in exchange for a fee.
Dr. Juan Bautista, a well-known physician in Fresno with multiple practice locations, says the scam appears to have specifically targeted his senior citizen patients.
The fraudulent scheme centers around a video that appears to show Dr. Bautista and a colleague inside his medical office. In the clip, the doctor looks directly at the camera while his colleague turns and walks away. The camera pans to follow her before returning to Bautista, who waves and smiles…
