Redding police nab robbery suspect at Mt. Shasta Mall

REDDING, Calif. – A 34-year-old man from Madera County was arrested after an alleged robbery attempt at the Mt. Shasta Mall on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The incident unfolded at a JCPenney store, involving a struggle with mall security.

According to the Redding Police Department, Ivan Martinez-Chavarin was caught trying to flee with merchandise valued at over $700. Police said he was wearing a black sling-style bag containing a loaded revolver and additional ammunition, although he did not use the weapon during the incident.

Store security detained Martinez-Chavarin after he attempted to push past them to escape. Officers later discovered he had an active felony warrant for domestic battery and was prohibited from possessing firearms…
