Animal control called to a ‘very unusual call’ at Madera High

MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Police say animal control officers were called to a “very unusual call” at Madera High on Tuesday.

A badger was hiding inside a storage closet.

With the help of California Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist Dan Fidler, who they say drove hours to respond to the call, the badger was safely captured and removed.

The animal, known for its long-borrowing claws, lives underground in subterranean mansions known as setts. While native to the area, their population has been declining; they are considered a species of special concern…
