CalFire asks community to help prevent spread of invasive pest

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Have you seen unusual holes in your trees? CalFire is asking the community to keep an eye out for evidence of one of California’s most wanted pests: the Goldspotted Oak Borer.

They are typically found in the oak forests of Southeastern Arizona and Southern California, but CalFire’s Madera Mariposa Merced Unit is now asking the community to keep out for signs of local infestation, including:

  • Thinning or dying oak canopies
  • D-shaped exit holes in bark
  • Bark staining or dark sap patches

According to the state agency, they are responsible for killing more than 200,000 oak trees across the state.
